Frequent Asked Questions
This page is designed to answer general
questions regarding cost, timescale, planning, building regulations
and benefits. If, however, you cannot find the answer to your
particular question here then please contact
us.
How long will the work take? |
 |
A typical conversion will normally only take 2-3 weeks. |
How much will it cost? |
 |
Costs start at around £7,500. |
Will there be any disruption to the rest of the house? |
 |
None at all really. 95% of the work Garage Conversions
Wales does will be based in your garage so we will only
need to come into your house itself to make any necessary
water, gas and electrical connections. The actual forming
of the new doorway between your garage and your home
is one of the very last jobs we do so this will again
cause minimum disruption. |
Is the quality of the work controlled? |
 |
Garage Conversions Wales will monitor all work on-site
on a daily basis.
|
What are the benefits of a garage conversion? |
 |
Your garage takes up a considerable area of space
on your property – if you don’t really use
your garage properly (and so many of us don’t!),
then this space is not utilised to full effect. So,
you can quite simply add an extra room on to your house
without having to upgrade to a bigger (and more expensive)
property. This also means that you can avoid the stress,
upheaval and associated moving and legal costs. Garage
conversion costs are an extremely economical way to
add this extra space and, unlike extensions or conservatories,
you don’t need to have fine weather during the
project. If you talk to your local estate agent you
will normally find that the addition of this kind of
extra room will also increase the value of your property.
|
Are my local council informed? |
 |
We inform the local building control department of
your council of the intended conversion under a building
control notice. As part of general building regulations,
they will then send out a building control officer to
inspect and monitor the garage conversion as the work
gets underway. |
Will we need planning permission? |
 |
In our experience most garage conversions don’t
need planning permission. We will, however, always contact
the relevant planning authority before we give you a
quote for your garage conversion to check if planning
permission is required. If it is, then the Garage Conversions
Wales team will obtain the planning permission on your
behalf.
|
Is Garage Conversions Wales fully insured for the work? |
 |
Yes. You will be given a copy of our insurance details
with every quotation.
|

| Benefits
of a conversion |
The benefits of having
your garage converted are clear to see:
• Increase the value of your
property (seek advice from a local estate agent to find
out more).
• Save money on moving costs – a garage
conversion can give you a more spacious home without
the need to take on a huge mortgage, stamp duty and
moving fees.
• Get extra space in your home – a typical
single garage takes up an average of 15 sq metres
– this is space we could all put to a better use.
• Improve the external appearance of your property
thus making it easier to sell in the future.
